His name is Marneus Calgar, and he has been in the books of lore, the tabletop settings, a visual novel, and a video game. But who is this strong man in blue armor from war?
Who Is Marneus Calgar?
He is a member of the Ultramarines chapter of the Space Marines. Their objective is to become a special fighting force for the Imperium of Man, able to repel the alien and chaos forces that are set upon them from all directions.
Genetically modified humans serve as space marines, dedicated solely to war. There are many stories and respect about Calgar in the Ultramarines because he is a well-known member of the group.
What Is His Rank?
Calgar is the rank of Chapter Master of the Ultramarines and Lord of Macragge. In the galaxy, this makes him the leader of all Ultramarines.
Roboute Guilliman, the Ultramarines’ primarch (genetic father, leader, and kind of god), has come back in the 42nd Millennium. Calgar, however, keeps his rank as Chapter Master and only asks Guilliman for guidance on how to run the chapter.
What Does He Do?
Calgar both protects Ultramar, the group of worlds from which the Ultramarines society comes, and sends Ultramarines to fight any enemy they think needs help in the galaxy.
It means that he is responsible for a very large area. However, due to his extensive responsibilities, he typically takes the lead when he and his elite units are required. He frequently confronts enemies face-to-face while simultaneously issuing orders to distant individuals.
What Weapons Does He Use?
Some of the best weapons that space marines have are owned by Calgar, who is Chapter Master and has the most impressive collection of weapons of any space marine.
He typically dons either terminator armor or, following his Rubicon crossing, a highly customized set of ultramarines-style power armor. He has utilized a variety of weapons throughout his journey.
Also He has ridden in a personal armed personnel carrier that can also be used as a mobile headquarters and he has used a relic power sword in the past.
Most of the time, though, he is seen with the Gauntlets of Ultramar, a pair of fancy power hands. They are powerful on their own, and they also have underslung bolters that shoot very quickly. Usually, he uses each one separately, hitting a different target with each bolter or fist.
Often, he is seen with the powers of the warp, an iron halo, and a personal force field that protects him from strikes from far away.
What Is He Known For?
If you look at Calgar’s list of awards, you’d expect that from someone his age and rank. He probably did the most important thing when he led the defense of Ultramar against the Tyranid attack and successfully pushed them back.
His record in battle is also impressive. He held off an ork army en masse by himself, killing an ork gargant and several large tyranid bioforms, and stopping multiple chaos plots, including beating chaos space marines and real daemons.

Calgar was called with his Ultramarines force to help the main army while Titus was traveling on Kadaku and the worlds nearby. This highlights the significance of the chaos forces revealing their intentions to the loyalist troops.
Calgar jumped into a warp hole that the sorcerer of the Thousand Sons had made. In this location, Calgar, Titus, and their team defeated numerous waves of chaos forces and ultimately triumphed over the Thousand Sons in battle.
